The opposition has done its homework on budget savings and "is ready to go" if there's an early election, a Liberal frontbencher says.
Opposition climate change spokesman Greg Hunt said the opposition would release its "savings measures" between now and the next election at a time of Opposition Leader Tony Abbott's choosing.
The coalition reportedly has a $70 billion black hole in its policy costings.
Earlier this week, Mr Hunt said he was up at 5am working through previous years budget papers.
"I was looking at what is viable and necessary and what are the real savings opportunities," he told Sky News on Sunday.
Mr Hunt stopped short of saying that all the coalition's savings had been finalised and were awaiting release.
"We're preparing for an election at any possible time so we're ready to go in case," he said.
"If an election were called today, we would be in a position to go to an election, if there's more time we can do more work."
He said the opposition were ready to rumble because the government was "dysfunctional and incompetent," and the Labor Party was in complete "internal disarray."
Mr Hunt said people would have plenty of time to scrutinise the opposition's costings.
"We will make the savings, that's the hard duty we have," he said.

He said the opposition would also reveal how middle Australia will be better off without a carbon price.
