Qantas workers to stop work

17:56 AEST Wed Oct 26 2011
The union representing Qantas ground staff says workers will hold stop-work meetings this week to discuss further industrial action over the airline's plans to outsource jobs.
"They will not employ another person in this country under Qantas and they will be outsourcing work where ever they can," Transport Workers Union (TWU) national secretary Tony Sheldon told reporters in Sydney on Wednesday.
"They have been lying to the media, lying to the public and lying to their own workforce."
He said the union will hold meetings at airports around the country on Friday for one hour.
"I expect that there will be an increasing expansion of industrial action (after Friday's meetings) because there is no other alternative that the company has left us with," Mr Sheldon said.
The TWU had previously called off nationwide industrial action that scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Comment was being sought from Qantas.
