Child protection investigators in the Northern Territory can more easily obtain personal information, such as children's health records, under changes that take effect on July 1.
Amendments to the Care and Protection of Children Act will mean that investigators checking into allegations of child abuse will be able for the first time to apply directly to hospitals and other organisations to request access to personal information.
Prior to the amendments, investigators had difficulty accessing medical records to clarify allegations made by children who said they had been physically abused.
Under the new system, investigators in the Office of Child Protection who have valid reasons can fill out a request for all departments to forward information relating to a particular child.
It is expected the change will make it easier to investigate child abuse cases.
An amendment to another act that will take effect from July 1 will alter the definition of a worker.
That change will make it more difficult for employers to hire workers who have Australian Business Numbers as contractors without having to pay for their insurance.
Prior to July 1, some employers hired staff who had ABNs and used them like full time workers but treated them legally as contractors.http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8491764/child-investigators-to-benefit-from-nt-law
