Security Council Extends Mandate of United Nations Mission in South Sudan, Unanimously Adopting Resolution 2726 (2024)

The Security Council today decided to extend the mandate of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan until 30 April 2024, unanimously adopting resolution 2726 (to be issued as document S/RES/2726 (2024)) under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations. 

By the text, the Council authorized the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMISS) to use all necessary means to carry out its tasks, determining that the situation in the country continues to constitute a threat to international peace and security.

By other terms, it recalled its previous resolutions, statements of its President and press statements concerning the situation in South Sudan, and decided to remain actively seized of the matter.
