UNIDO and the Russian Federation to strengthen cooperation

VIENNA, 28 November 2017 - Partnerships are essential for achieving inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) and meeting the ambitious 2030 Agenda. The common vision of strong partnerships upscaling the impact of development efforts is a key theme of the Memorandum on a Strategic Partnership between the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Government of the Russian Federation initiated on the sidelines of the 17th Session of the UNIDO General Conference.

The Memorandum builds on a history of successful cooperation between UNIDO and the Russian Federation spanning 50 years and reaps the accumulated knowledge and experience of both parties to increase their joint contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Russian Federation is a key partner for UNIDO and is one of the major contributors to the Organization’s operational budget and the Industrial Development Fund through the provision of financial support to a wide array of UNIDO activities in Central Asia, Caucasus, Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America.

LI Yong, UNIDO Director General, said, “We aim to leverage knowledge, technologies, experience and expertise from the Russian Federation in development cooperation, by involving various stakeholders, such as academic institutions, private sector, NGOs and individual experts from the Russian Federation. The country has a lot to offer.”

Gennady Gatilov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, highlighted the propitious timing of the signing of the Memorandum during the UNIDO General Conference, held under the theme ““Partnering for impact — achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”. He said, “This Memorandum is evidence of the result-oriented direction in which the development cooperation between UNIDO and Russian Federation evolves. We have indeed accumulated a wide range of experience, practices and expertise in development assistance, especially in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, with a special focus on promoting effective cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and stand ready to utilize the best practices for upscaling its applicability for the achievement of ISID.”

Москва. 28 ноября. INTERFAX.RU - Россия и Организация объединенных наций по промышленному развитию (ЮНИДО) подписали меморандум о стратегическом партнерстве, документ подписан на встрече замминистра иностранных дел РФ Геннадия Гатилова с генеральным директором ЮНИДО Ли Юном.

"Этот документ закладывает рамочную основу наших отношений с Организацией, знаменует выход взаимодействия сторон на новый более качественный уровень", - говорится в сообщении МИД РФ, размещенном во вторник на сайте ведомства.

Гатилов и Ли Юн на встрече обсудили различные аспекты сотрудничества России с ЮНИДО в интересах устойчивого промышленного развития, отметили высокое качество совместных проектов технического содействия в странах СНГ, Африки и Латинской Америки.
